squange living

dennis the menace
"Squange" is a new word to the world, introduced to us by an inspired lad who will surely bring more enlightenment to us for years to come.

"Squange" pretty much means "anything pre-packaged and ready-to-consume."
- Pop-tarts are "squange" pastries.
- Frozen pizza is "squange" dinner.
- Pre-washed, bagged salad is "squange" salad.
- A snazzy apartment RIGHT next to one of your most creative friends in Berkeley that has not yet been shown to the world, but which has countless brand-new features, an outdoor deck, and south-facing windows (many) - that's "squange" serendipity, and it's yours for a very reasonable, if slightly bay-area-priced rate---right now.
- A rentable room that has just been put on the market turns up right next door to one of your most inspired friends in San Franrancisco for half the price of the snazzy apartment - hey, that's a "squange" housing opportunity too...
- People that you meet, say, for a hike at sunset ask: "so, when are you moving to the Bay Area so we can be friends?" - those are "squange" friends and they are highly adored.

What needs to be decided is:
- Why do these opportunities present themselves at this time? (mystery)
- Does one wish to relocate to the Bay Area? (sure, why not?)
- How could one afford it? When one's job, which one likes a lot, is in Seattle? (one cannot-one simply cannot)

So then why does it feel like it needs to be explored, this crazy idea that keeps rearing its head of moving for...for...for fun? For community? For...adventure? For - for why?

Perhaps a run in the sun will help to clear the cobwebs.

Ideas?

Of course one wishes to relocate to the Bay Area. But that is because some other one has been visiting the Bay Area for the last week and falls in love with it every summer. And because one has just bought fabulous trinkets from the streets of Berkeley and discussed with great seriousness living in a cardboard box with a friend to stay there.

But one is also deeply in love with Seattle. More so than any area of said Bay Area. One is jealous of one living in Seattle. One is jealous of the squange vacation to Seattle given to her parents by old family friends.

But run in the sun anyway. Because I spent four hours in a car today driving back from Lake Tahoe and wished I could've biked my way back instead. My head would be much clearer. More clear?

Yes. You get it.

interesting parallels....
(a) i just spent a week in tahoe too
(b) the drive there SUX - and can actually last 7+ hrs, so 4 is lucky
(c) i realize that those 3 hrs you didn't spend in the car don't make the 4 that you did any more enjoyable
(d) seattle is, indeed special
(e) the cobwebs remain, run or no
(f) have fun in Tahoe

Re: interesting parallels....
search for a job in San Fran if that's where you are being pulled. If not, be content for once and just chill in Seattle and have the luxury of moving about and spending a great deal of time in San Fran without living there. Being content...that doesn't ever really happen for you or me. I wonder what that would feel like? It's the art and creativity that is pulling you to Cali, I know it. Maybe it's time to take that risk...
